Rocket Expenditures
Above is the expenditure sheet for our rocket. As you can see, $220,000 was wasted during the construction due to some major design tweaks undergone the day before launch. These design tweaks arose when the team learned the engine they planned on using (Estes A8-3) did not have enough thrust to power a rocket weighing over 3 ounces. Materials needed to be cut off of the rocket to reduce weight on the rocket, which is why we wasted money. The duct tape and hot glue were both necessary as they supplied the team with a way to bond parts of the rocket together. Bubble wrap, cotton balls, the Easter egg, paper shreds, parachute material, and shroud line were all used to keep the egg safe; which was the most important part of the project. The paper shreds were not used in the final product, as they proved to not offer enough cushioning for their weight. Unfortunately, these materials were evaluated by NASA and at one time on the rocket, and they need to put into the final cost.
